Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about our programs, approach, and how to get started.

What is an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)?

An IOP is a structured mental health treatment program that provides a higher level of care than traditional weekly therapy, without requiring an overnight stay. At e-motion wellness®, our IOP is designed for people who need more support than one hour per week can offer but who are able to live at home and maintain daily responsibilities.

What makes e-motion wellness® different from traditional therapy?

Traditional mental health care focuses primarily on insight and talk, understanding your patterns, processing your history, building self-awareness. We do all of that. What we add is a physiological foundation. We address the nervous system first, because insight without regulation rarely produces lasting change. Our approach sequences care the way the brain actually works: stabilize the body, then do the psychological work.

Who is e-motion wellness® for?

Our programs are built for people who have already done work, therapy, self-help, medication, and still feel stuck. If you understand your patterns but can’t change them, feel chronically overwhelmed or emotionally exhausted, or have tried traditional approaches without lasting results, you are exactly who we designed this for.

What conditions do you treat?

We work with adults and adolescents experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma (PTSD), bipolar disorder, OCD, addiction and substance use, emotional dysregulation, burnout, and low self-esteem. Many of our clients carry more than one of these, which is why we treat the whole system, not just the diagnosis.

What is the difference between PHP and IOP?

These are two levels of outpatient care. A Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is the most intensive, typically five days per week, several hours per day, and is designed for people in acute distress who don’t require hospitalization. An Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is a step down, usually three to four days per week. We offer both levels and work with each client to determine the right fit.

What is the e-motion wellness® Method?

The e-motion wellness® Method is our structured framework for healing and well-being. It integrates six core pillars, including nervous system regulation, breathwork, physical movement, self-concept work, community connection, and measurable outcomes, into a unified care model. The method reflects our belief that lasting mental health requires working with the body, not around it.

What is the Wellness Lab?

The Wellness Lab is our on-site facility for physiological stabilization. It includes modalities like red light therapy, cold plunge, infrared and Nordic sauna, and structured physical exercise. These are not add-ons, they are clinical tools for restoring nervous system capacity before and alongside psychological work.

Do you treat teenagers and adolescents?

Yes. We offer dedicated programs for teens and adolescents dealing with depression, anxiety, ADHD, trauma, substance use, and other mental health challenges. Adolescent programs are structured to account for the developmental stage of the nervous system, the work looks different than adult treatment.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes. We are currently in-network with Tricare East, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, and United Healthcare. We recommend verifying your benefits before starting, you can do that through our intake process or by calling us at (210) 600-4005.

Do I need a referral to start?

No referral is required. You can reach out to us directly to begin the intake process. If you’re currently working with a psychiatrist, prescriber, or outside therapist, we are happy to coordinate with them, but you do not need their referral to get started.

How long is the program?

Program length varies based on individual need and level of care. IOP typically runs 8–12 weeks. PHP can be shorter in duration but more intensive. Our team works with each client to build a timeline that reflects their goals, nervous system state, and clinical progress, not an arbitrary endpoint.

What does a typical week look like in the IOP program?

A typical IOP week includes group therapy sessions, individual therapy, access to the Wellness Lab, and structured programming around the six pillars of the e-motion wellness® Method. Sessions are scheduled to allow you to maintain work, school, or family commitments while receiving a meaningful level of care.

Can I keep seeing my current therapist while in your program?

In most cases, yes. We are designed to function as a higher level of care that complements outside relationships, not replaces them. We coordinate with outside providers when clinically appropriate and welcome collaboration.

Where are you located?

We are located at 431 Isom Road, Suite 204, San Antonio, TX 78216. Parking is available on-site.
